Hello Strangers!!

Long time no blog I know! I'm guilty!! But in my defence I've been a busy girl what with all this car trouble, NVQ-ing and we've been bustling about my patio adding some new plants and pots for spring!

Just a quick post really with a little eye candy for you as its been so long :) You may remember this LO from a little while back - however this is a "new and improved" version! One of the cats fell into a dribbly sleep on the original and spoiled the surface of the photo, so I added the doodled ladybird and butterfly to cover up the damage. I also re-painted the doodled blooms with a brighter shade of pink to give the page a bit more zing. It's in this months readers gallery in SI - check it out, this month's gallery really is fab and it's good to see so many familiar names, including my good ole buddy Gems! Not sure what happened to the pic in SI, but it looks a bit murky colour wise and a tad blurry (seems to be just my luck with that mag lol!!), but musn't grumble!!

Also here's another recent LO, quite bright and quirky, but as of yet I'm still undecided whether it's finished or not. I might add some more embroodling, and maybe some hand drawn doodling across the photos. Just can't decide!!
Also made a start on Emily Falconbridge's 52-Card Challenge - not taken any pics yet but will be back with some once I get myself back into gear!! Finally made a start on my gift box and matching planner we're all making for the Scrappers Unlimited retreat today too - there's only 12 days to go, so I'm completing it in my traditional, last-minute style!! So far so good though! Can't wait for the retreat - even though I have to work six 12-hour night shifts in a row before hand so that I can get the time off! Bleuch!

Anyway Blogeroonies, catch up with you all soon xxx

And we're off............

Well, not us literally, but my UCAS form is done and dusted and is winging it's electronical little way to the UCAS dudes to process it all. I'm not holding too much hope out to get a Uni place - I haven't got the relevant experience with children that all the courses seem to request and I'll probably be beaten to a place by a thousand teenagers - but as the old cliche says - we can but try eh? And if I don't try......I'll never know, and I don't want my life to become one full of regrets and opportunities never seized.

My sister phoned me this afternoon to say that she had Ellie on the floor playing, as usual, when she turned herself over and crawled a few inches!! How exciting is that!!! Katrina's back to work in a few weeks (she's not looking forward to it at all) and I will be looking after her a day a week - yikes!!! Not a good time for her to start crawling then! Only joking - I'm going to love it!!

So in celebration, here's a LO of Ellie I managed to finish yesterday evening on my sick bed with a little help of the chipboard letters that arrived in yesterdays goodies. Enjoy looking xxx

The Week that Wasn't.......

Apologies for my little break from blogger land….all will be explained…:)

Firstly my week got off to a great start last week when I came home from work on Monday morning to find a lovely little mousey present from one of the kitties awaiting me on the doormat. How generous of them I thought. They haven’t done this in a while but seem to be going through another of their hunter-gather phases at the mo and brining their catches home for me and Lee. Nice. Although it dos apparently mean that they love us very much.

So, I step through the door, put down my bag, and turn around to step back out to discretely clear up their pressie, when I realise that I’ve pulled the front door closed behind me. And it wasn’t on the latch. And my keys, and bag complete with mobile phone, locked inside. This is a good stage to point out that I was already bursting for a wee when I left work around 20 minutes before this. It was twenty to nine a.m., and Lee wouldn’t be returning home until 5pm. Not a neighbour or random passer by in sight.

So I spent the next 40 minutes or so trying to break into my own house with sticks and other random methods I’ve seen on tv programmes like The Real Hustle, to no avail. It’s not that the methods themselves were crappy, it’s was due to things like my letter box being slightly in the wrong position or the stick I was using being too short/long/bent in the wrong place etc etc. I even tried, and succeeded, to break into my expensive, supposed burglar proof, lockable cat-flap. Poo poo to that – I proved that to be a total waste of money within around 30 seconds! But it was no good as all that allowed was for the four hungry cats to bounce madly in and out of the house and for Rocky to stick his head out of it and excitedly bark at me directly, rather than from just behind the door.

Just as I was resigned to the fact that I’d probably have to perform “a wildie” with regards to my bladder urge, and that I’d have to sleep on my front lawn in order to get some rest before my impending shift that evening, one of my neighbours finally returns home from the school run. I relate my tale to him the fact that I had no phone to call for help or a spare key (he kindly offered for me to call Lee on his phone – but do you think I know Lee’s work number?!!!!), and he set about casting his, what looked to me anyhow, expert eye over my house for ways to break in. Isn’t it great to have a neighbour like that?!! *unsure* Within about thirty minutes, and after him quite literally risking life and limb and leaping through the air at ladders and window ledges and the such like, (bless his porky little bod) – I was in and safe and had access to my wonderful, delightful bathroom facilities!!!

It’s not until situations like this that you actually realise how easy it is, in fact, for someone to burgle your house if they have the right know how and tools. And I use the word tool in the loosest sense. Quite scary.

My next escapade was Friday morning. My sister and I thought it would be nice to go for a stroll along Mumbles. However my car had other ideas. My clutch was playing up along the way and I had to pull over and put my hazards on a couple of times, but just as we were coming into the village the whole car went crazy! It was randomly stalling, then shooting off on its own (even when the hand break was on) and I was unable to get it into any gear whatsoever. By some stroke of luck I swerved into a car park and there just happened to be a space that we could just roll into. I was a jibbering nervous wreck worried about how we’d ever get home but thank goodness my sister remained incredibly calm and she remembered that I had AA cover and called them up for me. An hour (and a Joe’s Ice-cream of course) later we’d been rescued and brought home safely by two lovely AA chappies.

Then Friday evening was the Swansea crop. It was a lovely and fabby evening, my class went well, I took part in the challenge, and we raised plenty of money for Comic Relief. During packing up in the last ten minutes, I started to get a strange pain in my upper abdomen and thought it must have been the anxiety of rushing to finish my challenge and balancing overseeing the class, but by the time I got in the car to come home, I was also feeling a bit sick. Once home, just 10 minutes later, I was shivering so uncontrollably that I thought I was going to shatter my teeth as they were smashing together so hard. Within the hour, and for the rest of the night, I was rancidly ill. It came out of nowhere and hit me so hard. There have been a lot of icky tummy bugs around the last month or so, and I thought I’d luckily dodged them all, but one must have found me.

To give you an idea of how ill I was, between Friday night and yesterday morning, I’d lost 10lbs!!! Shame that type of weight loss doesn’t last really!! I also always get all burst blood vessels all over my face and even in my eyes when I’m pukey lukey, so as well as feeling crappy I’m really looking it too!! But thankfully, I’ve felt a little better today – hence coming on here, I’ve been awake all day, my tummy is aching less, my muscles are slowly recovering and I’m up for a couple of mouthfuls of tea this evening :)

So that was my week anyway!! They say things come in threes, so I hope that my locking myself out, my crappy car, and my sickness is the lot!

In all seriousness, I must admit, things could be worse and I thank my lucky stars these are all I have to complain about. My thoughts and love go out to my friend and UKS team-mate Nina and her family xxx

I received THE most lubberly fun box of stash to play with this morning which was ordered for my birthday, so that perked me up a little, plus my wonderful Mummy called to see me with some Coca Cola – I usually hate the stuff but had a weird craving for some since Saturday, must be something to do with all the fluids I lost, and she lovingly came to look after me for a while today with a big bottle of the stuff. It’s great that even though when you’re a big girl, when you’re feeling pants and really need a big cuddle with your mum she’ll still come over and cwtch you and rub your forehead until you feel better. Love you so much Mum – you’re the best xxx

That’s one long post – if you’ve read all the way down to this line – thanks for sticking with me – you’re a star! Will catch up with all your blogs tomorrow xxx

New Size!!

For a good while now I've been noticing that most of the layouts that really grab my attention in online galleries and magazines are the 8.5x11 size. I was dying to give it a go - but I'm a bit weird when it comes to organising my albums and all the themes I've started that will have albums all to themselves (e.g Book of Me, Holidays/travel, family pages etc), are all in 12x12, the thought of suddenly changing format half way through an album seriously freaks me out. Yep, I'm that strange! For the same reason I'm not really a mini-book kinda gal either, although, never say never cos I've got some cute rectangular coasters waiting to be transformed into something spectacular once I can think of a theme lol :)

However, being such a clever little chicken, I realised that I’d only scrapped two LO’s of my niece, and as she’d probably end up with an album to herself anyway – what better subject to induct myself into a new size with?!

So, at the crop on Saturday – I took the plunge. Although half way through I did think I was a bit barmy trying to fit three photos, four patterned papers, cardstock and journaling on to my first small page! But, after a grand total of 12 hours croppin’ (ok, so some of that time was also devoted to shopping, teaching and filling my face with delicious couscous, rice and pasta from the buffet!) it finally came together. And I kinda like it! I was pretty chuffed too as I managed to mix some really old KI papers in with some more recent stuff like the urban lily paper I used and I think it still looks really fresh. Giving old papers a new twist is going to have to become an essential way of scrapping if I’m lucky enough to get a place at uni :)

The journalling reads "I agree that you must take time in life to stop and smell the flowers - but that is SMELL, not EAT Ellie!!" The other papers I used were from American Crafts and Scenic Route; Everlasting Keepsakes chipboard monogram and those yummylicious felt flowers were from a local craft shop. They rock and only cost 20p each - you can't get fabber than that!!Also want to catch up in the Emily Falconbridge 52 Card challenge that every blogging scrapbooker seems to be doing at the moment!! It looks like a fun little way to try out some new techniques without worrying about wasting supplies or ruining LO's. Got a few weeks to catch up on, but I'm off until Sunday so may get a couple in during my time off.

That said, I've FINALLY started the NVQ level 3 that I was enrolled onto at work 18 months ago. 18 months of palaver, cock ups and waiting to start something that I was soooo not interested in doing at all anyway, but it’s becoming legislation that all care sector workers have to undertake within the next something or so years (it keeps getting extended!), and now the assessor finally managed to get all my correct details together and come out to see me. But if the messing around hasn’t been bad enough – she broke the news that I have to complete the entire thing by September! Ha! Sounds ages away but it’s only five months in which to complete a years worth of work. So I’m going to be a very busy bunny with all that, plus add in the fact that she can’t really carry out any observations on me during the night (cos I don’t do anything lol!!!!) I am going to have to give up loads of my own time to go in and hold meetings and reviews and undertake support planning like I used to pre-nightshifts, just so a couple of boxes can be ticked to say I can do my job. A job that I hate.

Yeeeeuch! Panty poo poo indeed.

There is one slight upshot though – the NVQ 3, combined with my other qualifications, is an acceptable entry requirement for the course I want to take, so at least that will go in my favour……………..if I ever get my bloomin UCAS form off that is!! I’ve just got a few sentences to go, and then it’s off!! To be honest, as it’s so late in the day I’m not expecting to gain a place this year – but it will only make me more determined to be more organised for next year and apply again on time, and will also allow me to gain any relevant experience that will go in my favour :) And save some money!!

Or maybe we’ll win the lottery in that time and I can forget about having to retrain to get a decent career, and instead buy myself a desert island (and find a good scrap store to ship stuff out to me!), and wile away my days scrapbooking in the sun!!

Doggy Dates

Last week Rocky and I went on one of our doggy dates with our buddies Sian and Freddy. Although I'd seen Sian a couple of times since October (mainly for our little "LOST" TV parties - which might I add we are currently in total devastation about as we both have the former NTL, and following its' takeover by Virgin we no longer have Sky One or the best entertainment programme since Bagpuss), the Fredster and the Rockster hadn't seen each other for a while and were getting a bit restless about it all.

So last week we had a get together, for the dogs' sake of course, and seeing as our birthdays are close together it was a good excuse to go for a trek around Pembrey Country Park and a pub lunch afterwards!

It was a cold and fresh day - but we had the whole beach to ourselves bar a single jogger and his own canine campanion. This portrait of The Fredster totally cracks me up - it sums his crazy little self up to a T - one tennis ball in his mouth, and one between his paws!! He's a dog that wants it all! Rocky had to carefully seize his moment to mange to get a look in!!
Love this pic as it just sums up the isolation and tranquility of the beach that day!
Well, it's the fab South Wales Crop tomorrow - a 12 hour one to mark the crops 3rd birthday! I'm usually really excited the day before but I'm teaching a class again tomorrow so I'm all nervous. It's a nice simple layout to complete, and it's very bright and happy in keeping with the party feeling. We'll be having a nice lunch put on and everything! But the fact that it's a special crop actually adds a bit of pressure to me (silly I know) about teaching, plus being the shy retiring type that I am standing up in front of a room of 40 people is never fun anyway - let alone in front of 40 uber-talented scrappers!!!
I'm also dreading packing up my stuff to take- I haven't been to a crop since before Chrimbo so my craft stuff is aboslutely all over my craft room - I can just aout sit at my PC!! I'm not even sure where Stanley (my robox) is to cart everything there - and that's hardly easy to miss is it?!!! Also must not forget to pack my special glitzy crop slippers either - no way can I wear shoes for 12 hours man!! I've got such hot little feet! The slippers are really cute though - I'll have to get a pic of them..............hmmmmmmm thinking about them I may scrap them.....think they'll go nice with the BG Phoebe papers lol :)
Right - off to see my little neice as she's had some studio portraits taken - can't wait to see them!!

Random Happy Pics #4

I was sitting here with little Ellie on my knee giving her her first gentle introduction to the world wide web, when she started really hammering her fist on my desk and babbling away loudly - I swear she's yelling "Hey Auntie Talie - it's been ages since you uploaded some random happy pics on to you blog for all those interwebby people to see!"

So especially for Ellie, here are some new piccies to spread some sunshine in this world :)
First up, a close up of those "Love Muffins" for all to see :)And secondly, some of my favourite funky, crazy socks!!
Love and slobbery baby dribble kisses,
Nat & Ellie xxx

My new friend

I've been spending time playing with a new friend the last couple of days.........according to a certain thread on UKS (you know who you are), she gets about a bit, but never the less, when she turned up chez moi I was nothing short of hospitable towards her and we got on great guns. I am of course talking about Pheobe, the new line from Basic grey - and here are the pretty things we made together........lol..... I added them to my slide show above too as they're a bit bigger and more visable on there.
Now please...........personally, I thought that the title for this LO about the cupcakes I made for Lee on Valentines Day was a little cheeky, a little tongue in cheek. But when my mother and sister saw it, they were of the opinion that "Love Muffins" is a phrase bordering on pornographic. Forgive me if you are offended, however I like it so there!!!!!!! Just an ickle bit of one of the Pheobe papers on it, but lots of other lovely things, like the Cupcake tag which was on my birthday present from Gems (that inspired the oclour scheme), some lace trim and lovely white rub ons - the brand of which escapes me right now! Also used some freebie velvet stickers that came with a mag - thought they looked cute for this page. It's actually based on a sketch from the February issue of SI, which helped it come together really quickly. My "muffin" stamping (lol) went a bit skewiff though - but not much could be done 'bout that. What's stamped is stamped.
My second page, "Signature Scents", is a reminder of how inspiration can strike in the strangest of places! I think you'll know who you are too lol! It looks better in real life - all straight and everything, honest g'vnor! Just lurve lurve lurve these papers - think they are my favourite from the collection. Got to use my Heidi Swap journalling spots that I've been hording for a while too, and a yummy pink felt flower that I added a crystal brad to the centre of. This was also based on a sketch, one I made from a LO I saw in what I thought was the Jaunary issue of Creating Keepsakes but I can't for the life of me find the original LO again to make a correct reference.Anyway - took some cool photos to use for my SW Crop class today, just waiting for them to dry and then I can make a start on that little lovely.................nothing like the last minute eh?!

Little Book of Inspiration

Here's my finished little book for all my notes and scribbles for scrapbooking :) Just gotta love the hot pink metallic acrylic paint!! The trickiest bit was machine stitching the pink rik rak to the existing black ribbon which acts as the closure (see below) because the foot on the machine couldn't hold the ribbon in place due to the thickness of the chipboard cover. But once I got going it was easy peasy :) I divided the book into sections - and the front page of each section had a patterned paper strip and a file tab added to the top to make them stand out from the rest. Also on each divider page I stamped the section title in the bottom left corner using versamark to make the most of the lovely kraft paper pages - you can just see the large "ME" in this picture of my intro page as an example.
