Holidays are coming.......

....and I'm slowly getting into the festive spirit, not as much as usual though! However, we have well and truly decked the halls! Th electric board would be rubbing their hands together with glee if they saw how many fairy lights we had here - bonuses all around for them next year on our bill alone I reckon. It's hard to see in the pic, but they are strung around the inside of the windows too *rolls eyes*
Lil Miss stayed here last Friday, and wanted to give you all a festive wave! Done lots of crochet, but can't show much of it at the mo as they need to be sent off to Santa *wink wink*. I did make these cute little cacti I found here, one for my mum's desk at work (she's not too good with real plants, and every office should have a plant right?!), and one as a Housewarming for my buddy who's just got a new cottage (swit swoo!)I looked all over the net for a pattern to make teeny flowers to put in their hair (it was a bow on the original pattern) to no avail, so ended up playing about with embroidery thread and stitches until I got the look I wanted. Think it was something like three DC then a SlSt over and over until I had five "petals". Well, I think the official announcement has been made, so I can now tell you that a a few weeks ago I had an email from Sarah's Cards asking if I'd like to join their design team. I accepted and received my first assignment this morning and I'm excited to get cracking on it! The new team also coincidentally includes my buddies Gems and Sarah (and I'm looking forward to getting to know the other girls too) so loads of inspirational talent there, something for everyone :)

So you'll be seeing my ugly mug over at Bubbly Funk and Sarah's Cards in the new year - lucky you eh?! lol Did you see what I did over at the BF blog this week, something a bit different for me!
It's Lee's birthday today - happy birthday Mister! - and we have our works Christmas do tonight. Oh the joy lol!

Catch up with you soon xxx

Winter Wonderland

*Warning - mega picture post* lol

A couple of weeks ago I headed down to the Waterfront Winter Wonderland in town with the family armed with my camera. I decided to be brave and set my camera to aperture priority rather than automatic to have a go at taking control lol!

First stop was the massive big wheel which dominates the city skyline.Lol, I always buy hats but never wear them as they don't suit me and make me feel really self conscious - I actually started a scrapbook page about this ages ago, must finish it soon lol! Anyway, the only reason I wore the hat was because the whole outing was a spur of the moment decision and my hair was a bit greasy at the roots! But I was blooming grateful for it - silly girlie that I am went out in just a tshirt under my coat and I was bloody freezing, especially at the top of that icy, windy big wheel lemme tell ya!

Lee and Andrew took to the ice, and were surprisingly rather good at it! (In other words, they didn't fall over!)Next stop was the amusement stallsThe boys were unable to resist the lure of the games and as a result Ellie got lucky and came away with a few big cuddly toys! Think she was picking out a massive Pooh Bear in a dressing gown here. The rides looks so lovely lit up against the cold winter sky.The Big Man himself was there! And after all that standing about in the cold some seasonal refreshments were in order! Cue the mulled wine, hot roasted chestnuts and massive German sausages flame grilled in front of us!I used all these photos (and more) to make a festive mini book over at the Bubbly Scrumptious blog yesterday.
I had to share these pics - I haven't been feeling very festive for various reasons - it was only yesterday I put our tree up! That's unheard of, it's usually up on the 1st December, if not a couple of days before! Anyway, looking at the warm glow of these pics does give me that little excited tingle for what is usually my fave time of the year!
My crochet coming on really well, will get some pics up soon!

Cake anyone?

Me being me, and having sooooo much spare time on my hands, decided last week that I wanted a new hobby - namely crochet. I'd seen lots of cool lil crochet bits and bobs on the net, and as my niece is having a toy kitchen for chrimbo thought it would be cool to have a stab at some of the nifty lil play-food items I've seen.
So I dropped this fabby lil lady a line, who I knew is more than a dab hand at the fine art of crochet, and she was an absolute angel with loads of tips and know how, and in pointing me in the right direction of loads of links to patterns and tutorials. She was sooo generous with her time and encouraging on my first squiffy attempts at some wonky stitches :)

But, again me being me, I wanted to crack on and have a go at a pattern as soon as I could more or less do the stitches, so I found this cupcake pattern here, and gave it a bash. Et viola, Ellie will have three colourful cupcakes to bake in her Kitchen on Christmas day! They aren't brilliant, but I'm proud of my first attempts. It said to stitch some beads on top for sprinkles, but I went for chunky french knots as I thought they were more playful looking - thank goodness my gran taught me embroidery when I was a nipper lol! Really loved the frilly edges on the pattern.
It is soooo addictive and I've found a whole host of things I want to give a go like right now! Damn this stinky maths assignment that is due in on Monday for taking up all my time this week!! Roll on the Christmas holidays so I can crochet to my hearts content. I know I risk sounding like a granny saying that, but honest - I can't wait to give some more cool things a go!

And finally, don't forget to have a look what I've been up to over on Bubbly Scrumptious - this week I got jiggy with a Maya Road Calendar turn, here's a wee sneek peek, but go see the full project too.

Catch you soon xxx
